Grandpa's Run for the Walleye slated July 6

The 2013 Run for the Walleye in Crosslake is a traditional Fourth of July weekend event that benefits walleye habitat. The event will take place July 6 at the Crosslake Community Center.

It is open to the public and all ages are welcome to participate.

Check-in on race day will be from 7:15-8:30 a.m. at the Crosslake Community Center. The Kid’s Sunfish Dash will start at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K run or walk race will start at 9 a.m.

The race will be chip-timed by Pickle Events and take place on a certified course to help those wishing to improve their official finishing time.

Runners/walkers will be divided by age group. This is a fun event for everyone. Some runners have chosen to run in costume in the past.

There will be food and beverages available for registrants at the Crosslake Community Center pavilion, and prizes will be awarded after the race. T-shirts will be given to all entrants who pre-register and to race-day registrants as long as supplies last.

There will be awards to top runners in each age group plus a raffle drawing for all entrants. Ribbons will be awarded for all Sunfish Dash finishers.

Registration forms are available at the Crosslake Community Center. The 5K run/walk registration fee is $20 by June 26, or $25 if postmarked later than June 26. Registration will be available on race day, but pre-registration is encouraged.

A $5 fee will be charged for participation in the Kid’s Sunfish Dash (ages 12 and under).

The Run for the Walleye is sponsored by the Whitefish Area Property Owners Association (WAPOA), Lakeside Lawn & Landscaping, Lakeland Agency and Lakes State Bank, the Crosslake Lions, Anytime Fitness and other individual donors.
