Patriots lose in state quarterfinals 4-1

Senior pitcher Katie Thun allowed just four hits and struck out a career-high 18 hitters to lead the Hermantown Hawks past Pequot Lakes 4-1 in the Class AA state softball quarterfinals on Thursday, June 6, in North Mankato. The Patriots played in the loser's bracket on Thursday night.

Pequot Lakes notched its only run in the sixth when Katie White walked, and eventually scored on Lindzee Johnson’s single. Hermantown added a final run in the seventh when Herzig came home on a single by Jordyn Thomas.

“(Thun) had a good breaking ball, and really worked the plate,” said Pequot Lakes coach Bret Sergent said. “She’s the best pitcher we’ve seen this year.”
