PR-B golfer advances to state

Cody Mager will return to the Class A state tournament after carding an 82 on Thursday, May 30, in the Section 6A championship at Lakeside Golf Course.

Mager of Pine River-Backus was the top individual not on the winning Mahnomen team to qualify for his second state tournament, scheduled for Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker on June 11-12.

His PR-B teammate Saul Sasse shot an 88 and Pillager’s Logan Jackson shot 86. The individual cut off was 84.

“He just played smart,” said PR-B head coach Mark Gonnion. “He kept the ball in play and he knew he needed to get around the golf course without getting careless with some of his shots.”

Mager went birdie-birdie on holes 16 and 17 helping him shoot nines of 41-41.

Team scores: 1-Manommen 345, 2-Ottetrail Central 354, 3-Barnsville 362, 4-Ada-Borup 369

Individual medalist: Nathan Kahlbaugh (Man) 74

Pillager results: Logan Jackson 86
