Patriots win first Section 6AA title

The Pequot Lakes softball team defeated Staples-Motley 1-0 and 4-0 to capture the first Section 6AA softball title in school history on Thursday night, May 30, at Waite Park. The Patriots, 19-2 overall, advance to the Class AA state tournament to face Section 7AA champion Hermantown at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in North Mankato.

In the first game, Pequot Lakes grabbed the lead with a single run in the bottom of the seventh, and then held off a Cardinals’ rally in heavy rain in the top of the seventh to force another game. The Patriots grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held on to beat S-M and advance.

After graduating high school in 2004, I attended Central Lakes College in Staples, MN for 2 years where I got a diploma in Communication Art and Design. I then transfered up to Bemidji State University in, you guessed it, Bemidji, MN. In the spring of 2009, I graduated from BSU. Then in the fall of 2009 I got a job at Echo Publishing, a sister company to the Brainerd Dispatch.
