Sasse leads PR-B golfers at Cragun's

The Pine River-Backus’ Saul Sasse earned all-conference honors with a 43 at the rain-shortened Mid-Minnesota Conference tournament at Cragun’s Legacy Courses on Monday, May 20.

The Tigers didn’t have a complete score as Cody Mager shot a 48.

PR-B was scheduled to play at Nevis on Tuesday, May 21 and Subsection 6A tournament in Perham on Thursday.

Team scores: 1-Staples-Motley 202, 2-Pequot Lakes 216, 3-Park Rapids 230, 4-Crosby-Ironton 234

Individual medalist: Kyle Quast (S-M) 39

PR-B scores: Saul Sasse 43, Cody Mager 48.

Tigers place 2nd at Red Lake

Cody Mager and Saul Sasse each shot 81 to lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers to second place at the Red Lake Invitational on Thursday, May 16.

Fosston won with 348 while the Tigers were a close second with 351.

Tigers 8th at Park Rapids

Cody Mager’s 89 led Pine River-Backus at the Mid-Minn Conference meet Tuesday, May 14, at Park Rapids.

Andrew Israelson captured medalist honors with a 74, and led Staples-Motley to the title.

PR-B junior varsity competes

The Pine River-Backus junior varsity boys’ golf team finished seventh at Black Bear Golf Course on Thursday, May 16.

Brainerd was first with 352, followed by Crosby-Ironton 365, Pequot Lakes 393, Staples-Motley 421, United North Central 433, Nevis 438, and the Tigers 556. Individual scores for PR-B were Camden Korwin 117, Cody France 144, Nick Janovec 147 and Jerrod Johnson 148.

PR-B was ninth at Whitetail Run in Wadena on May 9. Individual scores for the Tigers were Korwin with 64, Troy Staples had 69, Johnson 71 and France 74.

Brainerd was first with 197, followed by Wadena-Deer Creek 204, United North Central 204, Crosby-Ironton 206, Pequot Lakes 209, Park Rapids 219, Nevis 224, Staples-Motley 228 and PR-B 278.

On May 6, at Madden’s Pine Beach West, the junior varsity made its season debut. The team did not have a complete score, but Korwin had 55, Johnson 73 and France 76. Brainerd Blue finished first with 181, followed by Pequot Lakes 189, Staples-Motley 192, Crosby-Ironton and Brainerd White 196 and Nevis 213.

In junior high play, PR-B finished fifth at Blueberry Pines in Menahga on May 7. Detroit Lakes won with 409, followed by Fosston 410, United North Central (Sebeka-Menahga) 425, Staples-Motley 428 and PR-B 527. Cody France led PR-B with 119 while Johnson had 125, Staples 130 and Nick Janover 153.
