PL boys 2nd at Mid-State

The Pequot Lakes boys placed second while the Patriot girls were third at the Mid-State Conference meet on Tuesday, May 14, at Crosby-Ironton High School.

Travis Jacobson captured the 400 dash for Pequot Lakes and Tyler Tappe won the pole vault and broke school records in the 100 and 200 dash.

“The warm weather is a wonderful thing for athletes, and that helped us see some great performances,” said Pequot Lakes’ boys’ coach Dave Guenther. “Tyler (Tappe) set a school record in the 100 with 10.98 seconds, which broke Nolan Michaelson’s record of 11.1 from 2012. Tyler also had a 22.69 in the 200, which broke Mike Jacob’s record of 22.8 in 2001.”

Lane won the 100 and 400 meter dash. The junior tied the school record in the 100 and set school records in the 400 and 200 dashes.

”I thought we had a shot at second place in the Mid-State, and I wasn’t too far off,” said Kazmierczak. “Caitie Ryan is running well and continues to improve in the 800. Jackie (Brine-Doyle) was the most improved last week as she cut 17 seconds off her personal best in the 3,200.”

Kazmierczak adds the Patriots are focusing on qualifying “as many kids as we can” for the Section 6A meet.

“I wish we had another couple weeks of the season for some of these younger kids to find events that are better fits,” Kazmierczak said.
