Lightning down Fort Ripley in amateur baseball

Aaron Jenkins hit a three-run double with two outs to highlight a five-run ninth inning by the Nisswa Lightning, which propelled them past Fort Ripley 9-6 Sunday.

Jenkins finished 2-4 with four RBIs. Morgan Shepherd was 2-3 with a double and two runs. Drew Boland went 3-5 with two runs and Luke Schumer, who earned the pitching win, drove in two runs and scored once.

Fort Ripley’s Ray Austin was 3-4 with four RBI and Brett Kramer was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. The Lightning enjoyed an 11-6 edge in hits. Both teams had three errors.

The Lightning are scheduled to play at St. Joseph at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, May 24, and then host St. Wendel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, and play at the Cuyuna Miners at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 27, in Crosby.
