Pequot Lakes PTA to host Bike Rodeo on May 4

The Pequot Lakes PTA will host its fourth annual PTA Bike Rodeo from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Eagle View Elementary School bus parking lot.

This free family event provides a quick refresher course on bike safety through several bike games and an obstacle course. It is open to children who are able to ride a bike (preschool and older) in the Pequot Lakes School District.

The event is organized by game stations that will focus on skills such as straight line control, weaving, stop on a dime, turtle crawl and look behind. A favorite station is the radar run where the kids can see exactly how fast they really can bike.

The obstacle course is a unique opportunity to work with a Breezy Point police officer one-on-one. The rider will be asked to maneuver through a fictional street and apply all the bike road rules. Other stations include a bike inspection, helmet fitting and healthy snacks.

Each bike rider is responsible for bringing his or her own bike. Bike helmets are required for all bikers.

The first 220 students to complete the games and obstacle course will receive a free T-shirt and a bike bottle. Youth size bike helmets will be provided for those in need.

Participants will be able to register to win a bike in a drawing — four 16-inch bikes, six 20-inch bikes and two 24-inch Trailblazer bikes will be given away.
