Redmond also won the playmaker award with a team-high 87 assists and led the Patriots with 281 rebounds. Redmond, who averaged 18.4 points, was a first-team Brainerd Dispatch All-Area player, and he joined junior teammate Travis Jacobson on the All-Mid-State Conference team. Pequot Lakes’ Brett Peterson received all-conference honorable mention.

The Patriots’ Michael Ryan received the Coaches Award and shared the “D” award for defensive play with John Craig. Peterson was chosen the most improved player after leading the team with 44 three-point baskets. Junior Tyler Tappe led the Patriots in free throw accuracy at 69 percent (29 of 42 attempts) while Jacobson also averaged in double figures at 11.7 points per game.

Tri-captains for the Patriots were Redmond, Wes Mumm and Ryan. Other letterwinners were Kevin Beltz, Sean Murray, Keegan Johnson, Jack Kreitz, Connor Davich and manager Mitchell Sergent.

“We would like to have done better than 11-16 overall, but we were 6-4 in the Mid-State Conference, and five of the teams we played this year went to state,” said Pequot Lakes coach Garry Grewe.

Grewe also recently announced that he was stepping down as Patriots’ head coach.

“It has been a very memorable and wonderful 11 years as coach of the Patriots,” he told the banquet crowd. “We made it to state three times, and med lots of nice parents and fans, and had some great ball players.”

The Pequot Lakes’ freshmen team finished 9-13 overall. Players include leading scorer Gage Westlund, Cody Huss, Jack Harguth, Connor Dale, Dylan Walberg, Jordan Oaks, Hunter Goerges, Josh Buell, Michael Mathis, Cam Boller and Levi Palmer.

“It was kind of a transition year, but we beat Crosby-Ironton twice, which is always good,” said freshman coach Bret Sergent.

The Pequot Lakes junior varsity team finished 16-10 overall. Players included: Hunter Larson, C.J. Borleis, Connor Davich, Jack Kreitz, Jackson Goerges, Lucas Mumm, Jared Hutchinson, Brandon Hehir, Austin Anderson, Erik Elverum and Jon Bocklund.
