Numbers up for PRB track

The Pine River-Backus boys’ and girls' track and field teams should be more competitive this season with an increase in participants, according to head coach Tom Demars.

“We’ve had an increase in junior and senior high athletes for both the boys and girls,” said Demars. “The (late spring) weather couldn’t have been worse for us with a lot of new faces eager to try out different events, but we haven’t had an opportunity to do that yet.”

Returning letterwinners for the PR-B boys are Randall Osier, Tony Brunhuber, Travon Pederson, Jace Loge, T.J. Lukanen, Tyler Bestgen and Troy Fetter. Letterwinners for the girls are Megan Porta and Steph Malecha.

Non-letterwinners for the boys are Brandon Mager, Hank Steffen, Shane Fleming, Jacob Harper, Tony Pederson and Ben Remington while non-letterwinners for the girls are Bethanie Green, Brittany Schmid and Sky Kukok.

Last season, the PR-B girls were eighth and the Tiger boys were ninth at the Subsection 6A meet. Porta advanced to the section meet in the discus.

Tim Ramler is the assistant track coach.
