Savannah Stone MVP for Warrior skiers

Pequot Lakes senior Savannah Stone was named the most valuable girl and Ben Thoele the most valuable boy at the Brainerd Warriors Alpine ski team’s banquet Monday, March 4, at Cragun’s Resort.

Stone finished second at the state alpine meet on Feb. 13, at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. It was the best state finish ever for a Warrior boys or girl skier.

Stone, who was making her fourth trip to the state alpine meet, was second behind East Ridge's Elizabeth Koprucki. Stone finished in 1:17.27.

Stone's sister, eighth-grader Alex, also competed at the state meet and finished 43rd with a time of 1:28.36.

Other awards included: Boys’ most improved, which was a tie between Pequot Lakes’ student Tristan Elsenpeter and Grant Kosobud; and girls’ most improved: MacKenzie Dondelinger.

Girls’ team captains for 2012-13 were Jaden Lindner of Pequot Lakes, Hannah Moen and Dondelinger while the boys’ captains were Ben Thoele, Gabe Gibson and Cal Johnson.
