PL junior varsity girls win two of three games

The Pequot Lakes Patriots junior varsity girls’ basketball team recently won two of their final three games to end the season.

On Monday, Feb. 18, at Crosby-Ironton, the Patriots edged the Rangers 30-28. Kelsey Hart and Megan Lohmiller each had seven points, Laura Squires added five, Catie Ryan, Emilee Buell and Barb Miller each had four and Meghan Nelson had a free throw.

At Cold Spring Rocori on Tuesday, Feb. 19, the Patriots led 27-24 at the half before losing 49-41. Ryan led the way with 15 points, Buell added 10, Jessica Faacks eight, Squires six and Nelson two.

At Bagley on Thursday, Feb. 21, the Patriots jumped to a 10-0 lead and assumed a 25-11 halftime advantage on way to a 41-29 win. Squires had a team-high 12 points, Hart, Lohmiller and Faacks each had five, Caitlin Carkhuff and Nelson each had four and Ryan and Buell each had three.

JV boys win two games

The Pequot Lakes junior varsity boys’ basketball team won two of three games last week. The Patriots won 68-52 at Pelican Rapids after leading 37-21 at the half on Saturday, Feb. 16. Connor Davich led Pequot Lakes with 20 points while Jack Kreitz and C.J. Borleis each had 13, Hunter Larson had nine, Lucas Mumm six and Austin Anderson three.

At Perham on Tuesday, Feb. 19, the Patriots led 31-18 at the half, but lost 48-46. Davich finished with 14 points, Kreitz had 10 and Larson eight.

Against Nevis on Friday, Feb. 22, Borleis and Kreitz each had 13 points, Davich added seven, Larson and Erik Elverum each had six, Mumm, Jared Hutchinson and Jon Bocklund each had four, Anderson had three and Jackson Goerges had a free throw.

At Perham, the Pequot Lakes freshmen were defeated 70-44 with Hunter Goerges leading the Patriots with 12. Gage Westlund added eight, Josh Buell seven, Cody Huss six, Jack Harguth four, Connor Dale three and Jordan Oaks and Levi Palmer each had two.

Against Nevis, the freshmen built a 27-14 lead at the half and went on to win 51-31. Westlund finished with 15 points, Buell had nine, Hunter Goerges eight, Dale seven, Harguth and Huss each had four, and Oaks and Palmer each had two.
