JV, freshmen boys teams split

The Pequot Lakes junior varsity girls’ basketball team notched two more wins last week as they defeated Crosby-Ironton 45-24 on Tuesday, Feb. 12, and topped Grand Rapids 51-34 on Thursday, Feb. 14.

The Patriots built a 21-2 lead against C-I as the Rangers didn’t get their first basket until just before the halftime buzzer. Catie Ryan led Pequot Lakes with 13 points, Emilee Buell had 10, Jessica Faacks eight, Laura Squires five, Alex Nelson four, Morgan Lohmiller three and Caitlin Carkhuff two.

Against Grand Rapids, the Patriots jumped to a 13-2 lead early, and enjoyed a 30-16 lead at intermission. Ryan had 12 points, Buell and Lohmiller each had eight, Kelsey Hart seven, Faacks six, Nelson four, and Carkhuff, Barb Miller and Squires two each.

The Pequot Lakes junior varsity and freshmen boys’ basketball teams split a pair of games last week.

The junior varsity team beat Pillager 58-45 on Tuesday, Feb. 12, but lost at Crosby-Ironton 45-44 on Friday, Feb. 15.

The Patriots trailed Pillager 27-22, but rallied with a big second half. C.J. Borleis led Pequot Lakes with 17 points, Connor Davich added 12, Hunter Larson nine, Jack Kreitz six, Lucas Mumm, Jared Hutchinson and Erik Elverum each had four, and Jackson Goerges two.

Against C-I, Borleis had 14, Larson eight, Davich seven, Kreitz six, Jackson Goerges five, Hutchinson four and Elverum two.

The Pequot Lakes freshmen lost to the Huskies 49-43 but defeated C-I 53-38 behind 23 points from Gage Westlund. Against Pillager, Hunter Goerges led the Patriots with 13 points, Westlund had nine, Cody Huss eight, Connor Dale three, and Jack Harguth, Josh Buell, Cam Boller and Levi Palmer each had two.

Pequot Lakes led the Rangers 25-23 at intermission. Buell and Dale each had nine points, Huss eight, Michael Mathis three and Harguth one.
