The Pequot Lakes Patriots girls’ basketball team assumed an early 16-0 lead and cruised past the Park Rapids Panthers 88-47 in a Mid-State Conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The Patriots assumed a 32-7 cushion midway through the first half. Pequot Lakes’ Vanessa Lane later scored the 10 straight points to help her team lead 42-13 with 5:00 left in the half. It was a big half for the home team as Lane had 21 points and Kayla Miller 16.

Katie White helped Pequot Lakes start fast in the second half as she nailed two 3-point shots and added a layup to make it 64-23. The Patriots then substituted freely as nine players scored. The last six points came on a layup by Morgan Lohmiller and a pair of baskets by Kelsey Hart.

Lane led Pequot Lakes with 25 points and 11 rebounds. White had a season-high 21 points and Miller had 16.

The Patriots took 75 shots from the field, and made 40 shots.

“The girls all came out ready to play tonight, after we didn’t play well at Detroit Lakes,” said Pequot Lakes coach Jon Dale. “We played great defense and shot well from the field.”

It was parents' night as team manager Rosie Mitchell sang the national anthem and the varsity and junior varsity players handed out flowers to their parents.

The Patriots, 4-2 in the conference and 12-7 overall, played at Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and were then scheduled to host two Mid-State Conference opponents - Staples-Motley at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, and Crosby-Ironton on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
