Lightning fall to Monticello

Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake Moose defeated the Northern Lakes Lightning boys’ hockey team 4-1 in non-conference play on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Northern Lakes outshot Monticello 32-22, but only scored once on Aspen Florey tallied, assisted by Ben Moe and Kegan Couture, midway through the third period.

Goaltender Oliver Erholtz made 18 saves for the Lightning. Winning netminder Darien Jones stopped 21 shots.

Northern Lakes, 8-11 overall, was scheduled to host Greenway on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Northern Lakes scored four straight goals to defeat Cambridge-Isanti in non-conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Moe netted a pair of goals and added two assists. The senior added an insurance goal at 9:24 of the third period while playing shorthanded.

Couture collected one goal and two assists for Northern Lakes. Florey’s goal at 2:46 of the second period was the eventual game winner.

Lightning goaltender Mitch Stangel kicked away 41 of the 42 shots he faced.
