North Stars lose two games

The Breezy Point North Stars lost to the Granite City Lumberjacks 7-4 on Sunday, Jan. 6, and fell to the North Iowa Bulls 7-0 on Saturday, Jan. 5, in a pair of Tier III junior hockey games at Breezy Point Arena.

The North Stars, 3-27 overall, play at North Iowa on Friday, Jan. 11, and then host Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Against the Lumberjacks, the North Stars enjoyed a 3-2 lead after the opening period before Granite City rallied with three goals in the second period and two more in the third. Jared Naeve, Austin Cline, Jonathan Plaszcz and Billy Foy also scored for Breezy Point. Losing netminder Erikur Arnason had 40 saves.

Against North Iowa, goaltender Matt Bartels stopped 21 shots to earn the shutout while the Bulls’ Eric Behrend had two goals and Matt Koska added three assists. Arnason finished with 39 saves in the loss.
