Lightning win 5th straight

Alex Palm scored twice as the visiting Northern Lakes Lightning defeated International Falls 3-1 for their fifth straight win in non-conference girls' hockey action on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Northern Lakes, 9-6 overall, play at Morris-Benson on Thursday, Jan. 10, and then host St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

"The girls have been playing well, and with a lot of heart," said Lightning coach Kristen Harsha. "We have a tough stretch of games in the latter part of our schedule, and we're starting to click as a team."

On Saturday, Jan. 5, Northern Lakes held on to win on the road against the Broncos. The Lightning had defeated International Falls 3-2 in overtime on Dec. 29, in the Green Division title game at the Schwan Cup tournament.

Palm also recorded an assist on Courtney Kittock’s goal to make it 3-1 in the third period.

Winning goaltender Kat Jensen made 30 saves for the Lightning while Taylor Fish stopped 17 shots for the Broncos.

On Thursday, Jan. 3, Northern Lakes edged the Lakers on Palm’s late goal in Mid-State Conference play.

Mariah Reed, Kim Jessen and Megan Snyder scored the other goals for the Lightning while Palm had two assists, Kaylyn Eggena, Morgan Demars and Hannah Zimmerman each had one and goaltender Kat Jensen saved 21 shots.
