Lightning strikes down International Falls, Detroit Lakes

Alex Palm scored twice as the visiting Northern Lakes Lightning defeated International Falls 3-1 in a non-conference game for their fifth straight win on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Northern Lakes, 9-6 overall, play at Morris-Benson on Thursday, Jan. 10, and then host St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Lightning 3, International Falls 1

On Saturday, Jan. 5, Northern Lakes held on to win on the road against the Broncos. The Lightning had defeated International Falls 3-2 in overtime on Dec. 29, in the Green Division title game at the Schwann’s Cup tournament.

Palm also recorded an assist on Courtney Kittock’s goal in the third period. Winning goaltender Kat Jensen made 30 saves for the Lightning while Taylor Fish stopped 17 shots for the Broncos.

Lightning 4, Detroit Lakes 3

On Thursday, Jan. 3, Northern Lakes edged the Lakers on Palm’s late goal in Mid-State Conference action. Palm also added two assists.

Mariah Reed, Kim Jessen and Megan Snyder scored the other goals for the Lightning. Morgan Demars, a Pine River-Backus senior defenseman, Kaylyn Eggena and Hannah Zimmerman each had assists and goaltender Kat Jensen saved 21 shots.
