North Stars lost 9th straight

The Breezy Point North Stars junior Tier III hockey team was defeated on the road against the Queen City Steam 4-2 on Monday, Dec. 3.

The North Stars, 2-20 overall following their ninth straight loss, are scheduled to host Peoria, Ill., at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, and noon on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Queen City 4, North Stars 2

On Monday, Dec. 3, Damien Lona scored the game’s first two goals, and then completed his hat trick later in the game to lead the Steam.

Breezy Point’s Austin Williams, assisted by Crosby Steen, scored cut the deficit to 2-1. But Lona netted his third goal and then Queen City’s Trevor Knoll added an insurance goal in the third period.

Winning goaltender Austin Coulson made 35 saves while losing netminder Erikur Arnason stopped 39 shots.

Toledo 2, North Stars 1

On Sunday, Dec. 2, Breezy Point grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes on Andrew Sorbon’s unassisted goal. But Toledo tied it later in the period when Andrew Benyo scored. Alec Gerred then scored early in the third period on the power play to give Toledo a 2-1 victory.

Winning goaltender Nathan Miller and the North Stars’ Ian Shidlofsky each had 29 saves.

Peoria 2, North Stars 1

On Saturday, Dec. 1, Cody Lichtenvoort and Cory Kettler each scored to give Peoria (Illinois) a 2-0 lead. Anthony Martinez scored, assisted by Billy Fox and Tyler Reichl, to cut the deficit in half with 2:34 remaining in the third period.

Arnason stopped 41 shots while winning netminder Michael Parda stopped 38 shots.

Three Rivers 5, North Stars 2

On Friday, Nov. 30, Breezy Point fell behind 4-0 before Bryson Jasper scored on the power play for the Lightning, assisted by Kyle Eberwein.

Chase Leonelli scored his second goal of the game to make it 5-1 before Fox tallied for Breezy Point on the power play, assisted by Martinez and Reichl, in the third period.

The North Stars enjoyed a 34-27 edge in shots. Arnason stopped 22 shots while Tyler Stepke had 32 saves.
