Lightning shut out Becker-BL 3-0

The Northern Lakes Lightning boys’ hockey team earned its first victory of the season with a 3-0 non-conference shutout win over Becker-Big Lake on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Breezy Point Arena.

Keegan Couture scored twice for the Lightning while sophomore goaltender Mitch Stangl stopped 22 shots in the victory.

“We’ve played well over the years against them,” Northern Lakes coach Shawn Chambers said of defeating Becker-BL. “Mitch (Stangl) has played well in goal in each of our first three games. We’re doing a decent job in our zone, but the problem is we’re not putting the puck in the net. We’ve outshot all three teams we’ve played, but we only scored four goals. We need to find a way to get the puck in the net.”

The Lightning, 1-2 overall, was scheduled to play at Greenway on Thursday, Dec. 6, and then face Kittson-Central at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Hallet Community Center in Crosby.
