Tiger volleyball wins Homecoming game

The Tigers defeated the Pillager Huskies three games to one for the Tigers’ homecoming Friday, Oct. 12. The Tigers came back to win the first game after being down 7-15 thanks to a six-point run including three kills by Megan Felthous and one kill by Journee Howard. The Tigers won on a kill by Liz Downie 25-22. The second game wasn’t as close as the Tigers jumped out to a 7-3 lead, and solidified their lead a bit later with a seven-point run including kills by Felthous, Brittany Kelley and Allison Holm, and an ace serve by Felthous. The Tigers took four-game points to finally get the win 25-16.

The third game didn’t go well for the Tigers as they were ahead 13-7 when they let the Huskies rally to take the lead 14-13. The Tigers tied it, but the Huskies answered with a four-point run and the Tigers were unable to rally as they took the loss 21-25. The fourth game had the same score as the third, only in favor of the Tigers. The Huskies got an early lead 4-1, the Tigers came back and took the lead 10-6, and the Huskies tied it 10-10. With the game tied 14 all the Tigers went on a four-point run including two kills by Kelley and that was enough to keep the Huskies from coming back as the Tigers won 25-21.

Tigers fall to Patriots

The Tigers suffered a hard loss to the Pequot Lakes Patriots on Thursday, Oct. 11, in Pine River. The Tigers came out on fire and took the first two games only to lose the three after that and in the end lose the match. In the first game Pequot was ahead 10-7 when the Tigers rallied with an 11-point run with four ace serves by Felthous, a kill by Howard, and a kill by Kelley. The Tigers never looked back as they won the game 25-16. The second game was a bit closer as the Patriots had tied it 19-19 when the Tigers answered with a five-point run including two more ace serves by Felthous. The Tigers came away with the win 25-20. And that was the last game the Tigers won.

The third game was dominated by Pequot as they defeated the Tigers 25-15. Pequot got an early lead 7-2 and the Tigers were unable to rally. The fourth game was slightly closer as the Tigers did manage to tie it a couple times, but they still lost 18-25. The Tigers had eight kills to Pequot’s 13. The fifth game was easily handled by Pequot as the Tigers went down early 1-4 and took the loss 10-15.

Tigers 3, Clearbrook 1

The Tigers edged out the Clearbook-Gonvick Bears in their first of four home matches to end out the regular season. The Tigers lost the first game 16-25, and it seemed to give them the fight to win the next three. In the second game the Tigers were ahead 9-7 when they went on a five-point run including two ace serves by Kelsey Schwartz and a kill by Kelley to strengthen their lead. The Tigers won 25-17. In the third game the Tigers again took an early lead 7-3, and that was all it took as they maintained their lead to win 25-22. The fourth game was very close, going into extra points as the teams battled it out to the finish. Clearbrook got an early lead 7-4, and the Tigers clawed their way back to take over the lead 15-14. The game was tied eight times after that as both teams fought hard to take the win. The Tigers got the first chance at the game point as they were ahead 24-23, but the Bears got a kill to tie it and went ahead on another kill for the second chance at the game point. The Tigers held off the game point on a kill by Felthous, went ahead by one on a violation by Clearbrook, and won the game 27-25. The Tigers’ last match of the regular season will have taken place Tuesday, Oct. 16, in a conference match against the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves. The Tigers are now 14-6 overall.
