Patriots edge PR-B
The Pequot Lakes extended its win streak to seven matches in a row with a 25-10, 25-9, 24-26, 25-15 win over Crosby-Ironton in Mid-State Conference action on Monday, Oct. 15.
The Patriots, 18-5 overall before facing Aitkin on Tuesday, Oct. 16, is scheduled to open Section 8AA play on Thursday, Oct. 25.
Against the Rangers, Abby Palmer had 13 kills, six digs and five ace serves to lead the Patriots, who improved to 4-1 in conference play.

Patriots 3, PR-Backus 2
On Oct. 11, Pequot Lakes rallied past the host Tigers 16-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-18 and 15-10 in non-conference action.
Palmer netted 24 digs, 12 kills and four ace serves as Pequot Lakes. Aldin led the Patriots with 27 set assists and Miller pounded a team-best 13 kills.
Pequot Lakes grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first game before Coach Erica Norman’s upset-minded Tigers rallied to cut the deficit to 10-8. PR-B’s Megan Felthous served 10 points, with four aces, to an 18-10 lead. Liz Downie’s ace serve then ended the match at 25-16.
The second game was tied six times, including 19-19 before Felthous served four points and teammate Brittany Kelly ended the game with a kill.
In the third game, Aldin served all five points for a 5-0 lead. Pequot Lakes eventually led 14-6 after two kills by Mitchell. They later led 19-10 on way to a 25-15 win.
The fourth game was tied several times early. Pequot Lakes eventually led 19-14, and then Miller pounded down four kills late to clinch a 25-18 win and even the match.
The Patriots assumed 5-2 and 8-3 leads in the fifth game. Pequot Lakes eventually led 112-8 after a kill by Palmer. Miller and Palmer both had kills before the match ended on a sideout.
“It was a great match as everyone on both teams played well,” Patriots coach Kate Dale said. “The Tigers are a good team, so we’re excited to get out of here with a win.”
Brittany Kelley led the Tigers with eight kills, nine digs and six blocks while teammate Journee Howard added 24 set assists, five digs, three kills and two blocks.

Patriots 3, Park Rapids 0
On Oct. 9, Palmer recorded 18 ace serves to lead Pequot Lakes to a 25-4, 25-9, 25-14 win over the Panthers in Mid-State conference action.
In the first game, Palmer served 21 straight points, including 13 consecutive aces, to steal the show as Park Rapids managed just four points.
In the second game, both Palmer and Traut had seven straight service points as The Patriots had another convincing win.
The third game was a little closer, although Palmer served eight straight points for a 24-11 lead.
“Abby (Palmer) was on a hot streak from the line tonight,” Coach Dale said. “So we didn’t have much trouble.”

JV Patriots win twice
The Pequot Lakes junior varsity team swept Park Rapids on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and PR-B on Thursday, Oct. 11.
Against the Panthers, the Patriots lost the first game 25-18 before Pequot Lakes rallied to win 25-22 and 15-6. The second game was tied 21-21 before Kalli Peterson served two points and Brittny Bzdok had four kills in the three-point victory at 25-22.
The short game found the Patriots nursing a slim 6-5 lead before, with Josie Flurell serving, Emilee Buell had two kills for a 12-6 advantage for the Patriots. Pequot Lakes went on to win 15-6 on two ace serves by Mariah Reed.
At Pine River, the Patriots won the first game 25-7 as Buell had two kills for the final points.
The only time that Pequot Lakes trailed in the second game was 2-1. The Patriots eventually led 22-13 after two ace serves by Barb Miller and five service points by Peterson. Laura Squires’ kill ended the game at 25-15.
The C-team lost twice to Park Rapids before they won the third game. At Pine River, Kristy Peterson pulled the Patriots to within 24-22, but a side out ended the game with the Tigers winning.
Pequot Lakes led early in the second game, and they stayed within striking distance on two kills by Mikaela Florey and one by Debra Mitchell.
The Tigers eventually pulled away fro a 25-16 win on a kill by Cheyanne Swenson.
