Thank you, blood donors, for gift of life

I would like to thank the citizens of Pequot Lakes and the surrounding communities for making the Red Cross Blood Drive at the Pequot Lakes American Legion another success.

On Feb. 19, we had a very good turnout and collected 82 units of blood during the six-hour drive. We exceeded the goal of 70 units that the Red Cross had set for this drive.

We had 77 people presenting and received 62 units of whole blood plus 20 units of double red cells. Luckily there were only five deferrals.

Donors should plan for their next appointment by drinking plenty of fluids at least the day before and the day of the drive. In addition, eating some iron rich foods or taking vitamins with iron a few days before donating would be a big help. Please, don’t skip your meal or liquids before donating.

Our next blood drive at the Pequot Legion will be in August. We hope to see you then. Thank you again for sharing the gift of life!
