Where have all the birds gone?

Email News Alerts

I have lived on Pelican Lake since the 1960s and always had robins and cedar waxwings come in and strip the juneberry trees and bushes. This year I have not seen a single one of these species.

No swallows, either. Only the flycatcher came back to nest. I also found a dead gull on my beach, and I have not seen the eagle, either.

Perhaps someone who reads the Echo has an idea of what is happening here. Is it the late start of spring, global warming or something else?

I tried contacting the DNR when I found the dead gull, but the office did not answer. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. I am located on the east side near the public beach.
