A need for faith, hope

A need for faith, hope

Mr. Long, in his July 11 Dispatch letter to the editor, does not understand proof. If we had proof of Christianity there would be no need for faith of hope.

Many church goers are in it for the deal. “I believe, therefore I will get to heaven.” They spurn earthly greed for spiritual greed or else they believe due to fear of hell. Fundamental preachers use damnation as a scare tactic to get and keep obedient church members. Jesus would be appalled. Every Christian should ask, “Would I still follow Jesus if there was no afterlife?” Motivations need examination and lead to self knowledge.
