City seeks community's help for fireworks show

Ever heard the phrase, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch?” As much as we try to debunk that popular adage in our Pequot Lakes community, there is a thread of truth in it.

For dozens of years our business community, through the Pequot Lakes office of the Chamber, has donated the funds and provided the volunteers and staff to deliver two of the best community celebrations in all of Minnesota — our Stars & Stripes Days July 3-4 and our Bean Hole Days, this year July 12-13.

The events are free to attend but require considerable support, both in time and money, to deliver. Each year, the Chamber has to raise more than $25,000 to produce these events.

As the Chamber’s Pequot Lakes/Breezy Point board members have evaluated their financial resources, they have determined that we need your help.

We are asking our community members to help support the continuation of the July 3 fireworks show. The fireworks that soar over the high school football field cost $6,500. Your community support is needed to continue this holiday tradition as we celebrate our nation’s independence.

Please consider making a donation to the Pequot Lakes Community Fireworks fund. To learn more and make a donation, contact Jenna Crawford at 218-568-8911 or jcrawford@explorebrainerdlakes.com, or stop by Lakes State Bank-Pequot Lakes with your donation.

Thank you for helping us deliver memories of a lifetime for our friends, families and visitors.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
