Kid Konnection offers school-age child care summer programming

When school is out for the summer, what will the children do for supervision?

One option for families in the Pequot Lakes School District is to enroll your child or children in the Kid Konnection summer program. Through Kid Konnection your child can continue to connect with school friends during the summer months in a safe, adult-supervised setting.

Kid Konnection is open all summer. A separate summer enrollment is required to sign a child up for the summer program even if you have been participating in Kid Konnection during the school year. The first full day of summer child care will be Tuesday, May 28.

Who can attend Kid Konnection? Children who are enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade may be signed up for the school-age child care program. Kid Konnection is in operation at Eagle View Elementary School in Breezy Point.

What will the summer program be like? Kid Konnection offers a daily schedule of activities with school-age peers. The day includes large motor play time, crafts, science-based activities, a curriculum session to keep up with school skills, board games and quiet play time, use of computers, snacks and a weekly field trip.

Field trips are a regular feature of the summer program. Places to be visited include the Children’s Museum in Grand Rapids, area train exhibits, local water parks, local beaches/park areas, the summer reading program at the Pequot Lakes Library, bowling, the shooting range at Mills Fleet Farm, This Old Farm, the Duluth Zoo and the Headwater Science Center at Itasca State Park.

Why should our family choose Kid Konnection for our school-age child care? The children will be able to be with school friends in a safe facility supervised by caring adults. Children will be able to go to other summer programs offered at Eagle View. Kid Konnection staff will walk children to activities in the Eagle View building and pick them up if that is considered appropriate.

When is Kid Konnection in operation? The child care services are open Monday through Friday. The summer session begins Tuesday, May 28, and continues through Friday, Aug. 30. The program is closed on the following holidays: May 27, July 4 and Sept. 2.

Drop-in child care will be offered to already enrolled children, if there is space available on the day when drop-in care is needed. Please call to inquire before dropping off your child. Call 218-562-6109.

Where does the Kid Konnection program take place? The school-age child care will be using the Eagle View cafeteria, the gym, the computer lab, the science room, the Kid Konnection classroom and the playground. There is lots of room for children to move from one activity to another during the day.

How much does it cost to use Kid Konnection? The program fees are posted on the school district website. Go to and select “Kid Konnection.” Once you are on the Kid Konnection page you will find the enrollment form, the contract form, the two-week commitment form and the family handbook. You select the number of days and the number of hours of child care service that you need. Family discounts for a second child are offered.

Quality care, fun activities, time to play with friends under the supervision of caring adults make the summer Kid Konnection program a wonderful option for your child this summer. It is an economical option for parents to consider.
