There is an appointment

Zephaniah, the prophet of God to Israel of old, had a message for that nation, a nation that had chosen to go astray from their God and choose other gods.

“Gather together, gather together, O shameful nation, before the appointed time arrives and that day sweeps on like chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day of the LORD’s wrath comes upon you. Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.”

This is a warning from God. If there are those in the land who will seek the Lord, humble themselves (repent), seek His righteousness that He alone provides, then perhaps they may be sheltered in the day of judgment.

There is another day of appointment that is found in the Gospel of Matthew 26: “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher (Lord Jesus) says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”

The Passover would be Jesus’ last on earth with His disciples, for He Himself would be the Passover Lamb, sacrificed for us, His blood spilled for our sins on Calvary’s cross.

Each and every one of us will have one of two appointments with the Lord. You may have an appointment with the Lord as your Judge, or you may have an appointment with Him as your Savior who is full of mercy. Each of us must choose which it will be.

Jeremiah 8:20 says, ”The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved.”

The year 2012 is past and ended, and are you still not saved?

Jeremiah 8:22, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?”

The Lord Jesus is the balm, the ointment you need. He is the Great Physician. He can heal your sin wounds. Call to Jesus and He will make an appointment just for you, for your healing.

Acts 17:31, “For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the man (Jesus) He has appointed.”

Your day of appointment may be quickly approaching. So which day of appointment will be yours? Will He be your Judge or your merciful Savior?

The decision is yours alone. Zephaniah and Matthew both wrote that you might choose Jesus and find life.
