Mayor's Notebook: Enjoy the holiday lights in Pequot Lakes

The holiday season is in full force in Pequot Lakes. Take time to drive through our community after dark, noticing that almost all the buildings and much of the park are beautifully lit for the season.

During the day, take time to look at the wreaths welcoming you to the businesses – many decorated with bobbers to remind you exactly where you are.

This is thanks to the cooperation between businesses, Business Connect and the Pequot Lakes Business and Community Group.

Another result of wonderful cooperation was the Santa’s Bobbin’ Into Town event on Saturday, Dec. 8. For those of you who were unable to be in attendance, you missed an amazing full day of events throughout town, culminating with the Light Up The Night Parade down Government Drive.

The Pequot Lakes Fire Department’s truck that carried Santa and Mrs. Claus surely was a true highlight, thanks to the four hours our firefighters spent decorating it.

Plans for next year’s event (Dec. 14, 2013) are being discussed and this advanced notice should give you plenty of time to make a float or to purchase glow-sticks so you can walk with others. Plan ahead!

Finally, one housekeeping note. At the Dec. 4, 2012, city council meeting, the 2013 city budget was passed. When you received your proposed tax bill in late November, the city’s portion was based upon September’s preliminary figure of a 6.7 percent levy increase.

Please be aware that in the final budget, the levy will be minus .34 percent.

In the meantime, enjoy the holidays, keep safe and definitely drive through town in the evening to enjoy the sights.
