Wilma Wilcox Tye
Wilma Wilcox Tye, 95, Detroit Lakes, Minn., died on April 22, 2014, at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minn., under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Wilma Eileen Morris was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Argus, Ind., to Harvey and Lottie Mae (Taylor) Morris. She attended school in Indiana until eighth grade, when her family moved to Nimrod, Minn. Wilma was united in marriage to Frank Wilcox on June 6, 1937, and they farmed in Nimrod, Staples and the Pine River area. Later, she worked at Father Foley’s boys’ camp out of Pine River. They had two children. After their children were grown, they moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn. Frank passed away Jan. 25, 1979.
Wilma married Richard (Jake) Tye on June 8, 1984, and moved to International Falls, Minn. They later moved to Pine River, where Jake died in November of 1998. Wilma moved to Detroit Lakes in 2000.
Wilma was active in church activities and was a member of the Emmanuel Community Auxiliary. She had many friends and was an avid reader. Wilma moved to the Lamplighter Manor in December of 2006.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Reva (Duane) Husby of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; two stepsons, Richard (Rita) Tye of Richfield, Minn., and John (Diane) Tye of Le Sueur, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Frank and Jake; one son, James; a stepson, Carl Tye; three stepbrothers; one stepsister; one brother; two sisters; and two great-great-grandchildren, Reese and Hudsyn Larson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church (885 Pembina Trail, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501 or Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1111 E. Hwy 10 Suite 100, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501).
Memorial service will be Friday, May 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes, Minn., with Pastor Brenda North officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at West-Kjos Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
