Charles Burton “Burt” Spain


Charles Burton “Burt” Spain, 80, of Hackensack, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at his home.

Burt was born to William “Bill” and Evelyn Ralya Spain on July 31, 1933, in Brainerd. He graduated from Hackensack High School in 1951. Burt was a gentle spirit, a friend to all and will be forever in our hearts.

Burt is survived by his sister, Kathleen Palo (Allen) of Plano, Texas; nieces, Karen Houser (Tom) of Ham Lake, Minn., Pat Opheim (Ernie) of New Hope, Minn., and Ginny Spain-Johnson (Jim) of Akeley, Minn.; nephews, Scott Pipenhagen (Suzzie) of Fredericksburg, Va., William Capener (Cindy) of Farmer’s Branch, Texas, Todd Capener (Michelle) of North Colony, Texas, and Brian Capener (Jenni) of South Colony, Texas; many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Spain Pipenhagen; brother, William Byron Spain; niece, Linda Spain; and nephew, Gary Pipenhagen.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hackensack. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
