Gary James Thomas, 84, of Crosslake, Minn., died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake with Father Ryan Moravitz officiating. Visitation was Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, Minn. Burial will take place in Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake, Minn.

Gary was born June 19, 1929, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Glen and Gladys (Otelle) Thomas. He started working for S. J. Groves and Sons Construction at age 14 and was with the company until his retirement at age 62. He was united into marriage to Lucille Jones on Aug. 27, 1950, in Morristown, S.D. They lived in many states but made their home in Minneapolis, Minn. Following his retirement Gary and Lucille moved to Crosslake, Minn., where he was a resident until his death.

Gary’s was a member of the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, Minn. He was a past member of the Elks Club. Gary was a charter member and past president of the Association of Construction Equipment Managers or ACEM. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. Gary loved to do carving and be outdoors.

Gary is survived by his wife, Lucille; children, Robert Jones of Brainerd, Minn., Linda (Roger) Perreault of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Tim (Kathy) Thomas of Jacksonville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like memorials to go to Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, Minn.
