Emma L. (Burnard) Wheeler, 82, resident of Brainerd, formerly of Nisswa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.

Emma was born in Remer, Minn., to Ernest and Pearl (Larson) Burnard. She was formerly married to Clinton Wheeler and they had three children, Eugene, Steven and Rebecca Wheeler. Emma worked for Minnewawa Lodge, which later became Minnesota Hockey Camp, where she continued until her retirement.

Survivors include her children, Eugene (Paula) Wheeler, Steven Wheeler and Rebecca Wheeler; two sisters, Helen (James) Arnold and Shirley (Scott) Young; two brothers, George (Tudy) Burnard and Ralph (Pat) Burnard; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Esther (Dick) Wenzel and Bernice (Hollis) Olson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Pearl Burnard; one sister, Marian Kriha; one brother, Floyd Burnard; and four half sisters, Inez, Mildred, Hazel and June.

Services were at noon Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Christ Community Church in Nisswa with Pastor David Urich officiating. Visitation was at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd from 4-7 p.m. Monday and the hour before services at the church Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.

Nelson-Doran Funeral Home and Crematory, Brainerd, was in charge of arrangements.
