Dorothy Alvina Rich, 86, of Hackensack, Minn., passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Area Health Service in Park Rapids.

Dorothy was born July 16, 1927, to Oscar and Mabel (Opheim) Bostrom. She graduated from high school in Hackensack and then attended business college in Minneapolis. Dorothy married and continued living in the Twin Cities area, working and raising her family. In 1969, she moved “north” and worked for the Hubbard County Home Care for many years. Dorothy was past president of the Akeley VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack and the Akeley United Methodist Church.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, cooking, baking and going out to eat, and she loved to dance. Dorothy was a faithful letter writer, enjoyed visiting and being in the company of others, and made many special memories during her travels. Family was most important to her, especially her grandchildren. Her presence will be missed.

Dorothy is survived by her companion, Burton Woock; children, Patricia (Ernie) Opheim, Virginia Spain (James Johnson), Larry (Karen) Rich, Charlie (Sandi) Rich and Jon (Karen) Rich; grandchildren, Ronica (Ronald) Murtha, Mary (Jeff) Halet, Mark Rich, Shelby (Paul) Jensen, John (Leah) Opheim, Jacob (Jenn) Opheim, Joshua (Maggie) Opheim, Brittany (Shane) Spanjers, Michael (Micaela) Spain-Brist, Brandon Spain-Brist, Dylen Spain-Brist, Rob (Samantha) Rich and Melody (Jim) Rich; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda; grandson, Lawrence “Ole;” and brothers, Willard, Edwin, Wallace, Gordon and John.

Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack with Pastor Michael Small officiating. Visitation was Thursday evening, Oct. 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Union Congregational Church and one hour prior to the service. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack, following the service.
