Sharon Kaye Phelps, 68, of Jenkins/Backus passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2013.

Sharon married her best friend and soul mate Edward Phelps on Feb. 14, 1970 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Sharon was an EMT, a member of the First Responders, a collector of pig memorabilia, a past Sunday School teacher, good bowler and avid reader.

Sharon and her husband owned a farm in Jenkins where she was an active participant in the feeder pig operation. Sharon loved playing mind challenging games on her computer and would strive to beat her previous scores. She enjoyed reading and keeping herself informed about the news and issues of the day. She was an enthusiastic cook who gave no attention to a recipe and was a loyal lottery scratch-off player.

Sharon spent her life doing what she loved most, hospitality, she cared deeply about her customers and staff, they were like family to her. Her total commitment to quality food, exceptional service and hands-on management was unwavering. Sharon spent 27 years at Breezy Point Resort, retiring as the manager of Antlers. Sharon and Ed Phelps were also owners of the Pine River Super Club for a number of years.

Survived by her loving husband Ed; Godchildren Michael (Connie) Deans, Heather (Tim) Cole and Mario (Lisa) Olson; stepson Bradley Phelps; sisters Gayle (Richard) Swalve and Marlene Wald; brothers Steven Tingvold and Doug (Kathy) Jones; sisters-in-law Lorna (Robert) Kevelin and Sherry (Jim) Ellman; brother-in-law Robert Phelps. Many loved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and one great-grand-nephew.

Special thanks to the staff at Dignity and Grace Assisted Living in Backus and to members of her hospice team.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, March 28 at 1 p.m. at Breezy Point Resort.
