Wayne Joseph Crowley, 72, of Pine River, Minn., passed away on Jan. 4, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 3, 1940, on a farm close to Iona, Minn., to Raymond and Kathryn (Bulfer) Crowley. He was joined in marriage on Aug. 27, 1967, to Patricia Ann Palmer.

Wayne entered the Air Force in 1960 and graduated from Officer Cadet School in 1961. He served until 1969 when he was discharged from active duty in Tacoma, Wash. Wayne and Pat moved to Pine River in 1969 where he farmed. He joined the Air National Guard in Minneapolis in 1970, flying to numerous countries around the world, until he retired in 1982 as lieutenant colonel. Wayne served on the Walden Township Board for 25 years. He lectored at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Wayne enjoyed farming, caring for his cattle and working on tractors. His favorite past-time was visiting with friends and family and he was a great storyteller. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat; son, David, and daughter-in-law, Tina; grandchildren, Noah, Kyara and Shane of Pequot Lakes. He is survived by his mother, Kathryn, Fulda, Minn.; and siblings, Frank (Nadie) Crowley, St. Paul, Joanne (Tony) Mussi, Mesa, Ariz., Ellen (Ken) Anderson, Foley, Minn., Bob (Lee) Crowley, Iona, Minn., Bill (Terry) Crowley, Iona, Minn., Colette (John) Struthers, Hazelton, Idaho, and Ron (Sharon) Crowley, Spirit Lake, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Crowley, and a stillborn son.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River. Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River and continued one hour prior to the Mass at church on Wednesday. Burial with military honors were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice of charity.
