Glen “Pat” Smith, 67, of Nisswa, died at his home Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. Mass of Christian Buiral was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Nisswa with Father George Zeck officiating. Family and friends were welcome to gather Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment with military honors will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.

Pat was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Graceville, Minn., the son of Francis and Margaret (Clark) Smith. Following his graduation from Benson High School, Pat attended the University of Minnesota-Morris. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. On June 1, 1968, he was united in marriage to Alice Hennen. The couple lived in Benson and Cloquet before making their home in the Brainerd lakes area in 1987 when they purchased Martinson Insurance Agency, which they renamed Brainerd Insurance Agency. Pat cared about his clients and his community. He was active in Rotary, Cub Scouts and St. Christopher’s Catholic Church. Pat was also a past board member of the Initiative Foundation, Minnesota Independent Agents Association, Northland Arboretum, and Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corporation.

Pat was a gentle soul who enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. He liked hunting, fishing, boating, sailing and traveling.

He will be missed by his wife, Alice; his children, Wade (Kathleen Braddy) Smith, of Duluth; Brent Smith, of Minneapolis, and Mark (Tammy) Smith, of Brainerd; grandchildren, Mikaela, Katy, Shelby, Kaylene, Breanna and Lee; and brothers, Bill (Elmira) Smith, of Carroll, Iowa, Chuck Smith, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Bob (Jean) Smith, of Albert Lea, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
