Walker recognized by Who's Who Among Students program
Rebecca Walker of Pine River received national recognition as an outstanding campus leader for 2014 by the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges program.
She is the daughter of Tim and Lisa Walker.
Walker is one of 57 seniors from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., to accept this award. More than 2,842 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia participated in nominating their students.
A dietetics and biology major, Walker received this honor for her achievements while at Olivet, including: president of Student Dietetic Association; publicity coordinator for Kappa Omicron Nu human sciences honor society; recipient of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Janette Smith Memorial Scholarship; and researcher of nutritional profiling systems for Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Honors Program.
She also has been a volunteer with many campus and community groups, including: Habitat for Humanity, dietetic and interior design service projects with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Kankakee Mobile Food Pantry, St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Feed My Starving Children, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Joplin tornado restoration, Hurricane Sandy relief, Best Buddies and Salvation Army Kids Program.
Olivet Nazarene University’s campus nominating committee — made up of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body — nominated Walker for this award. Criteria for this selection included grade point average, participation and leadership in school activities, community involvement and leadership ability.
