PR-B business student travels to Indianapolis
Pine River-Backus Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter member Nick Gravdahl joined more than 5,000 other conference delegates from across the nation to participate and compete at the BPA 2014 National Leadership Conference, “Accelerate Your Future,” in Indianapolis, Ind., April 30-May 4.
“The conference was the culmination of a school year’s worth of business education and training, which members of the local chapter of Business Professionals of America at Pine River-Backus have received,” said chapter adviser Kyle Bergem, who teaches business courses.
Gravdahl earned the opportunity to compete in the national level Payroll Accounting contest by achieving a spot in the top 5 rankings at the regional and state levels held earlier this year. At the national level, Gravdahl ranked 49 out of approximately 115 competitors from across the country.
BPA is a national organization for high school, college and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school.
BPA acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
Early in the year, the PR-B BPA chapter had nine students compete in 15 contests at the regional level, and three students qualified to compete at the state level competition.
The Pine River-Backus BPA chapter greatly appreciates the financial support of the local business community to make the year-long program available to students.
