Director's Notes: I hope you had the time of your life

“Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road …”

So begins the song “Time of Your Life” by the band Green Day. The song was performed for some of our students not long ago by some of their classmates who will be leaving our school at the end of the year to continue the next leg of their education journey.

Similar “moving on” events will be played out in elementary, middle, high schools and post-secondary institutions across our country in the coming weeks as students graduate and move on to their next adventure, whatever it may be.

Our hope for our students moving on at the end of this year is that their time at Crosslake Community School (CCS) has been fruitful, meaningful and filled with great learning and memories. While we know the time is right for these students to move on and we will certainly wish them well, they will each take a piece of our hearts with them.

I have been an educator for a very long time. Each year, I have had a difficult time seeing a group of students move on. I would like our parents and community to know what an honor it has been to spend the last nine months with your children. I want to thank you for trusting us and being willing to share your most precious possession with us.

We have seen tremendous growth in all of our children and we are proud to have been able to serve you. As we say goodbye to one group of students, preparations will begin immediately to welcome not only a new batch of kindergartners, but also a group of potential ninth- to 12th-grade students who will become part of our proposed online high school model, opening next fall.

On another note, I would like to share with you two fun opportunities to support our school coming to you this June.

On Thursday, June 5, we will host the third annual “Evening for Education” at Moonlite Bay. Tickets are available by contacting the school at 692-5437. The event is $50 per person and includes a wonderful meal, silent and live auctions and dancing with the band The District.

Our second event is the first “18 Fore CCS” golf tournament at Crosswoods Golf Course on Sunday, June 22. Information for this event is available on the school website at or by contacting the school at 692-5437.

“… It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right. I hope you had the time of your life.”

Have a great summer, folks.
