Pine River-Backus School sees spring employee turnover
Numerous staff changes were approved at the April 21 Pine River-Backus School Board meeting.
The board hired multiple staff members, including paraprofessional Nathan Kottschade, varsity boys’ basketball coach John Riewer, special education teacher Shannon Moran and high school science teacher Lee Rudebusch.
Employee resignations include physical education teacher Beth Switajewski, speech language pathologist Joan Hardie and industrial arts teacher Duane Anderson.
Probationary teachers Melissa Greene, Sarah Flagstad and Kate Eidenschink were approved for termination and non-renewal, which is standard practice.
The board also approved posting for various positions, including early childhood special education teacher, speech language pathologist, elementary teacher and physical education teacher.
In other employee related business, the council unanimously approved a 2013-15 master agreement with the Pine River-Backus Education Minnesota union.
In other business, the board:
• Reviewed the progress of the school’s strategic planning.
• Awarded the elementary roofing project to Thelen Heating and Roofing as the lowest bidder.
• Approved an agreement with the city of Pine River for security services for the 2014-15 school year.
• Approved the 2014-15 school calendar.
