Pine River-Backus Speech Team wins awards for each member

The Pine River-Backus speech team competed at the Perham Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8, where everyone won an award in a competition among 16 schools. The junior varsity speech team competed Monday, Feb. 10, at the Cass Lake “Avengers” speech meet.

Perham Invitational

Humorous interpretation: Kyle Tschida, Superior ribbon for his interpretation of the play, “Stealing Saxophones from Homeless People,” by Jonathon Dorf; Lily Wiemann, Superior ribbon for her interpretation of the play, “Depressed White Girl,” by Brandon Daley; Melissa Meek, Superior ribbon for her interpretation of the play, “Grocery Shopping at the Hardware Store,” by Bradley Walton.

Junior varsity results:

Humorous interpretation: Jarod Birr, Excellence ribbon for his interpretation of the story, “The DVD Collecting Zombie,” by Krystal Henninger; Austin Mackert, Excellence ribbon for his interpretation of the story, “Stranger,” by Patrick McManus.

Dramatic duo: Anthony Owczynsky and Kate Berthold, Excellence ribbons for their interpretation of the play, “Assault Toast,” by Bradley Walton.

Informative speaking: Claudina Williams, first place medal for her informative speech on illusions.

JV at Cass Lake

Dramatic duo: Berthold and Owczynsky, honorable mention ribbon for their interpretation of the play, “Assault Toast;” Samantha Maurer and Mitchell Wynn, silver medals for their interpretation of the play, “Thtick ‘Em Up!” by Barbara Lhota and Janet Milstein.
