Crosslake-Ideal Lions Club donation brings snowshoes to Crosslake students, community
On Monday, Oct. 28, the Crosslake Community School was notified that it was the recipient of a $2,500 award from the Crosslake-Ideal Lions Club to purchase snowshoes for the school.
What makes this particular donation special is that it not only benefits the students at the school, but because of the nature of the donation, the members of the Crosslake community will be able to use the equipment as well, making this a collaborative effort between school and community. The Park and Library Foundation (PAL) will house the funds until the equipment can be ordered.
Jon Henke, director of Parks, Recreation and Library for the city of Crosslake, said, “The Crosslake-Ideal Lions, the Crosslake Community School, Crosslake Parks and Recreation and the PAL Foundation will work together to open the doors to exploring nature in our winter months. Charter school children and community members will be able to utilize the snowshoes at the community center and discover Crosslake’s newest amenity – The Nordic Ridge Recreation Area. This is a perfect example of the school working together with non-profits and local service groups to create new opportunities for not only students but also residents of our community.”
Lisa Schumacher, physical education teacher with the Crosslake Community School, added, “With this donation we will be able to teach our kids the joys of yet another lifetime activity. Not only will they be able to share this activity with their families, but be able to see our wonderful community and environment in a whole new eco-friendly way.”
Todd Lyscio, director of the Crosslake School, said that with limited funding, the school is not always able to provide enrichment opportunities such as this for students.
Lyscio feels this is a great opportunity for students to experience the winter season by exploring the outdoors in a way they otherwise could not.
Snowshoeing is a lifetime winter recreational activity and one that the community center and school are excited to be able to offer to students and share with the community.
The school and the community center gave special thanks to the Crosslake-Ideal Lions Club for their continued efforts to support the school, community and surrounding area.
