Artist of the Month, October: Malyssa Engren

Share a brief history about yourself, interest, hobbies, what it is about art that you like.

I’m a senior at Pequot Lakes High School and moved to Pequot at the beginning of second grade. My interests and hobbies include creating and listening to music, reading, writing and art. My favorite thing about art is the emotion it can portray and evoke from other people.

What are your future plans?

I would like to go on to pursue an English major in college and continue to do art as a hobby.

My parents are Wes and Amy Stone and Lenny Engren. I have six brothers and two sisters.

When were you introduced to art?

I was first introduced to art as a toddler with a box of sidewalk chalk. Since then I have enjoyed many years filled with crayons, markers and colored pencils, which eventually evolved into working with acrylics and oils. I am now in my fourth and final year of high school art, and I also participate in art club after school every Monday. While I prefer to work with acrylics, oils and watercolors, I also like to try new art mediums and work on new projects. In the past two years I have worked on several community projects, including the mural at Pfeiffer Drug. This year I hope to do several more murals along with the personal projects I am working on.
