Patriot Perspective: Eagle View starts Backpack Program
Helping students have the best chance to be successful learners is the first priority for us in school. This happens in many ways – having great teachers and staff, providing the right tools (computers, books, etc.) and taking care of the social and emotional needs of our students.
At Eagle View we understand how important it is for students to be well fed and rested in order to reach their full potential. A program we are starting this year is a Backpack Program where backpacks of food will be provided every two weeks to students who could use a nutritional boost through the weekend.
It is our hope that this Backpack Program will help students come to school on Monday well fed and ready to learn. There are other benefits we are already seeing and that I have experienced in a previous district that implemented this program.
The impact on our learning community is profound not only for those students who get the food, but on our community as we come together to support all. As we work together to get donations and pack the backpacks we are focused on the right mission of our school — helping ALL students be successful.
We have been truly amazed at the level of support from our staff and teachers, but also from parents and the business community. Many have stepped forward to offer support of time, money or food. We have sponsors that will provide for a whole month of need for many of the months already.
This outreach from so many stakeholders has provided a wonderful way to connect with all of our communities and families. I can only see this growing and becoming more meaningful as the program takes off.
It has been my mantra that it is our responsibility to provide every opportunity for ALL students to reach their full potential and feel successful, cared for and safe here at Eagle View Elementary School. The Backpack Program is another way for us to do just that. It has and will continue to bring our community together for a common purpose and it invites the greater community outside of school to partner with us to make a difference in so many lives.
If you or your business would like to partner with us by offering your time, money or food, we welcome you to contact us. We will find a way to get you involved in a meaningful way. It doesn’t take much to make a difference.
Come and join us in making this an even greater learning community. You can call Dave Endicott or Eileen Nelson at 218-562-6100 if you would like more information.
