Deep Portage offers fall programs

Deep Portage Learning Center and Conservation Reserve in Hackensack offers the following fall programs:

• Saturday, Oct. 19, there is a free Sight in Your Rifle program from 1-3 p.m. The Deep Portage rifle range will open to sight in firearms for hunting season.

• Saturday, Nov. 9, there is a Climbing Wall program at 1 p.m. Deep Portage’s climbing wall is 35 feet tall and challenges all abilities. Fee is $10 per climber. Climbers must be age 8 or older.

• Saturday, Dec. 7, a Snowshoe Weaving Workshop is offered. Deep Portage staff will lead participants through weaving a set of snowshoes. The frames are ash with nylon webbing as the weaving material.

Deep Portage will accept entries for its Critter Art Contest until Nov. 1. Send black ink drawings of wild animals, fish, birds, reptiles and insects that are native to the north-central Minnesota area to Deep Portage Learning Center, 2197 Nature Center Drive N.W., Hackensack, MN 56452.

The winning artist’s drawing will be featured on Deep Portage’s 2014 critter mug.
