PR-B Community Education offers classes

Pine River-Backus Community Education offers the following classes.

Outdoor Drawing Class (grades K-7): Wednesday, June 12, 3-4:30 p.m., $5. Learn to draw the nature right in front of you. Class will be held outside.

Sun Catcher Class (grades K-7): Thursday, June 13, 3-4:30 p.m., $5. Learn to make a simple sun catcher that adds color to any window. Class will be outside.

Nature Art (grades 3-6): Wednesday, June 19, 1-4 p.m., $5. Meet at Door 17. Explore the great outdoors while making a planter out of recycled materials and creating nature art. Bring sunscreen and a water bottle.

Extreme Machines and Wild Rides Camp and Science Spectacular Girls Camp were canceled.

Rose & Shrub Pruning for the Squeamish: Tuesday, June 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m., $5, at Sunshine Gardens. Bonnie Hiniker will teach how and when to prune shrubs, tools to use and how to care for them.

Weed Identification: Tuesday, July 2, 6:30-7:45 p.m., $5, at Sunshine Gardens. Participants will learn the difference between plants, weeds, flowers and veggies and how to maintain a healthy landscape and garden. Bring your own weed to get identified by the expert.

Summer Planting of Fall Harvest: Tuesday, July 23, 6:30-7:45 p.m., $5, at Sunshine Gardens. Bonnie Hiniker will teach what can be planted in July for late summer and fall harvest, including veggies, edible flowers, cool crops, containers and care.

Community Garden Plots: $10 per plot or $5 for a 4- by 8-foot raised bed. The Pine River-Backus Community Garden is located on school grounds and 15- by 15-foot plots are available for use. Water is supplied on site and tools will be available to use if needed.

Register online for up to two plots. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 587-2080 for more information.

Disc Golf: The nine-hole course has open play times. Bring your own discs/Frisbee or check out a beginners set through Community Education. Course maps are available by calling 218-587-2080. New tee pads were installed for smoother throwing surface. Contact Jake with questions at 218-536-0012.

The June 17 AARP Defensive Driving (55 Alive) class was canceled.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
