Myers recognized as graduate of U-Lead Advisory Academy

Brenda Myers of Pequot Lakes completed the U-Lead Advisory Academy on May 21 on the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota.

The 22 academy participants examined leadership and civic engagement and reflected on their future contributions to their communities. Educators of the University of Minnesota Extension’s Center for Community Vitality led the U-Lead Advisory Academy.

“By coming together to share our connections and various interests, along with the many fun-loving spirits that have been part of our group, we have been able to experience learning about our state and UMN Extension programs, education and resources with fresh eyes,” Myers said. “Even those who have been a part of Extension through 4-H, Master Gardener programs or other long-term programs have found there is much new to learn and many positive effects that Extension is making throughout our state and nation.” At the graduation ceremony, participant Scott Peterson spoke on behalf of the 2012-13 group. He reflected upon the 10 sessions from September through May that led them to get to know all corners of the state, elected officials in St. Paul and Washington, D.C., and their own leadership strengths and opportunities.

Mary Ann Hennen, program leader for Leadership and Civic Engagement programming at Extension, applauded the group’s commitment to participating in the program. The participants committed more than 350 hours to the program through travel, educational events and study.
