CAP to host Aerospace Education Open House May 8

All public, private and homeschool teachers and co-op leaders are invited to an Aerospace Education Open House from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Civil Air Patrol building, 16142 Airport Dr., Brainerd, hosted by the Crow Wing Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP).

Educators can learn more about CAP’s Aerospace Membership, which offers free curriculum, educational materials and the opportunity for flight in CAP aircraft.

CAP is the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force with three main missions. The local CAP group, Crow Wing Composite Squadron, is composed of teens (cadets) and adults (seniors), and meets weekly at the Brainerd Regional Airport.

CAP cadets participate in service to the community as part of its mission to develop leadership through Cadet Programs. CAP-trained pilots and ground teams of cadets recently searched for a missing plane on the North Shore as part of its Emergency Services mission.

CAP’s third mission is to promote Aerospace Education (AE), with an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
