'Contemporary China' topic of April 29 presentation

The Center for Lifelong Learning at Central Lakes College will examine the social and political implications of China’s rise as a global superpower when it hosts “Contemporary China” from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the Brainerd Campus of CLC.

Joseph Rogers, director of the Center for Global Education at the College of St. Benedict (CSB) and St. John’s University (SJU), will present topics including the transition to a new generation in China’s leadership, the rise of nationalism and China’s relations with its neighbors, and the ongoing concerns of environmental degradation.

Rogers draws upon his recent experiences in China, as well as 25 years of experience as a China-watcher. He also previously served as director for Education Abroad and coordinator of the Asian Studies Program at CSB/SJU, in addition working as a lawyer in private practice for seven years before shifting his focus to international education.

Cost to attend this event is $6 for non-members or free for those with a Center for Lifelong Learning membership. Pre-registration is recommended by calling 218-855-8118.
